About Seaside Mulch
History
For over a decade, Seaside Mulch has been a leader in the mulch industry.
Hackney Parker, the company’s president, worked for his father’s
mulch company as a young boy, and then in 1996 after completing college, Hackney
opened Seaside Mulch and began selling bulk mulches in Wilmington, NC. When
Seaside began, there were only a few piles of product, Hackney, his truck and
a loader. Seaside Mulch was the first retail mulch vendor in the Wilmington
area and was the first to sell red mulch in eastern North Carolina.
Today Seaside Mulch has grown under Hackney’s leadership and vision.
Seaside Mulch has become a manufacture of quality mulches and soils. In 2005,
Seaside began manufacturing mulches and soils in Horry County, South Carolina.
Seaside was the first to manufacture mulch in Horry County. Seaside also manufactures mulches and soils at its newest location in Castle Hayne in New Hanover County, North Carolina.
Seaside Mulch has a dedicated fleet of tractor trailers and dump trucks, with
an in-house dispatcher, to deliver our products. Our mulches and soils are
shipped throughout North and South Carolina.
Additionally, our Wilmington, NC location stocks many types of decorative aggregates
and natural stone. We ship aggregates and stone throughout the eastern United
States.
We have a knowledgeable and friendly sales team as well as courteous, professional
and safe delivery drivers to serve our customers. Seaside’s products
have been featured in national trade publications and are frequently spotlighted
on the Down East Gardener, a Wilmington TV gardening show.
Seaside Mulch is a member of the Mulch and Soil Council, the North Carolina
Nurserymen and Landscape Association, the South Carolina Nursery and Landscape
Association, the Southern Nursery Association, North Carolina Trucking Association and the Carolina Golf Course
Superintendents Association.

Biography
Hackney was born in Wilson, NC in 1972. He grew up in Warsaw, NC. Hackney
graduated cum laude from North Carolina State University where he received
a B.S. in physics and a B.A. in chemistry.
Hackney is third generation in the wood and stone industries. His grandfather
was a shovel logger and mined limestone. His father also mined limestone and
manufactured mulches. Hackney brought to his company years of experience in
the manufacturing and production of mulches as well as hands-on operating experience
of the various types of machinery used in the production of mulch.
Hackney is married to Jennifer, and she assists Hackney in the operation and
management of Seaside Mulch. Hackney and Jennifer enjoy spending time with
their black labs, Foster and Sam, boating and fishing.
